Thunder forward Ibaka out indefinitely; report says surgery ahead

Published Mar. 16, 2015 2:44 p.m. ET

Oklahoma City Thunder forward Serge Ibaka will be out indefinitely with lingering soreness in his right knee.

A team spokesman said Monday that the Thunder consulted with Ibaka's representation and they to have him see a specialist in New York. The team is in Dallas, where it will play the Dallas Mavericks on Monday night.

An ESPN.com report said Ibaka would undergo a knee procedure and that it was unknown how long he would be out afterward.

Ibaka has missed the past two games. He was playing well before that, averaging 17.1 points and 9.4 rebounds in 11 games since the All-Star break, shooting 55 percent from the field. The team still is missing reigning MVP Kevin Durant, out with pain in his right foot.

The Thunder are one game ahead of the New Orleans Pelicans for the No. 8 spot in the Western Conference standings.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
