The Orlando Magic search for identity on Fastbreak Breakfast
The national media has a lot of questions about the Orlando Magic. I tried to answer some of them in an episode of Fastbreak Breakfast.
The big storyline for the Orlando Magic this offseason was their search for an identity.
The team made a lot of moves that had everyone around the nation questioning what the team was doing. In the simplest terms, the Magic were tired of rebuilding and sought to make the Playoffs. So the identity they claimed they wanted for four years had to get implemented somehow.
It did with the amalgamation of Serge Ibaka and Bismack Biyombo added into the roster to go with promising young defenders like Aaron Gordon and Elfrid Payton. Even adding in Evan Fournier and piecing in Nikola Vucevic, it is hard to say exactly how this will all fit.
If anyone can figure out a way to make it all work, Frank Vogel will have to be that guy. He really does not have a choice with all the pressure put on the franchise this season.
There is plenty of healthy skepticism about the Magic and head scratching going on. At this point, you either believe in them or you do not (at least, not until they actually play games and give everyone data).
Until then, I am here to try to give some input into what the Magic are doing and preview the season.
I joined Fastbreak Breakfast earlier this week to preview the Magic, discussing the Magic’s offseason moves, Playoff expectations and where the team is headed:
This was a fun conversation as we recapped the Magic’s offseason. There is obviously still a lot up in the air.
The Magic undoubtedly sacrificed some of their long-term rebuild to get some immediate results. The Magic may have something of a ceiling with how far this team can go. But they want to get to step one in the Playoffs before worrying how to get any further.
Under that lens, much of what the Magic did made sense. If only for the short-term gain of a Playoff.
