Stephen Curry won't represent Team USA at Olympics

Two-time reigning NBA MVP Stephen Curry will not play in the Summer Olympics in Rio, as first reported by the San Jose Mercury News.

Curry, 28, has missed six of the Golden State Warriors' playoff games with ankle and knee injuries and has already told USA Basketball that he doesn’t want to be chosen from the pool of players from which it will select a 12-man roster. Instead, he wants to give his right knee more time to heal.

He issued a statement through the Warriors on Monday afternoon:

The Mercury News also gave updates on two other Warriors in the Team USA pool. Andre Iguodala reportedly is considering opting out due to concerns over the Zika virus, but Draymond Green will play in Rio if he is invited. Klay Thompson is the other Warrior among USA Basketball’s 31 finalists.

Iguodala won a gold medal at the 2012 Olympics, but none of the other Warriors finalists has played in the Summer Games.
