Slumping Knicks fire coach Derek Fisher

The Knicks, once 22-22, have lost nine of their past 10 games. Now, they're looking for a new coach.

Derek Fisher, who the team dismissed on Monday, officially went 40-96 during his season-and-a-half in New York. Kurt Rambis, who coached the Timberwolves from 2009 to 2011, will take over as interim coach.

Rambis has never really found much success in a head coaching role. His Wolves totaled 15-67 and 17-65 records during his two years at the helm, and he became more famous as "The guy who didn't want Kevin Love to shoot threes" than for anything positive. You have to imagine he's not around for the long haul, though, and that he's only running the team in the short term.

ESPN's Brian Windhorst has added some immediate names to the mix:

Phil Jackson coached Shaw when he was a Lakers player. Shaw was later a sought-after assistant on Jackson's coaching staff in L.A. before flaming out as Nuggets coach after just a year-and-a-half.

The Knicks signed Fisher to a five-year contract as head coach immediately upon his retirement from the NBA as a player. He had no previous head coaching experience. Following the news, Fisher thanked the Knicks and Jackson for the opportunity:
