NEW YORK (AP) The NBA says its Jr. NBA program in India has reached more than 750,000 youth and hopes to reach 1 million by 2016.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and Sacramento Kings owner Vivek Ranadive, a native of India, are visiting the country to celebrate the success of the program, which began in 2013. The league partnered with the Reliance Foundation to launch the program in 1,000 schools.

The league also hopes to train 2,000 coaches and physical education instructors in the next two years.

Because of the trip, Silver was unable to attend the Senate Commerce Committee's hearing on domestic violence in pro sports Tuesday.
