Rockets' Patrick Beverley reportedly could miss rest of season

As the Houston Rockets welcome back Dwight Howard, they might have lost their starting point guard for the foreseeable future.

Patrick Beverley might be out for the rest of the season because of a wrist injury, Yahoo! Sports reported Tuesday.

Beverley suffered the injury in the third quarter of the Rockets' victory over the Indiana Pacers on Monday. Doctors are expected to announce Wednesday whether Beverley needs season-ending surgery or could postpone it until after the season, according to the report.

"If the news is bad on Pat, he might be out awhile," Rockets head coach Kevin McHale told the Houston Chronicle on Tuesday. "We will find out the news on Pat, but the initial thought was that it might be bad. Hopefully it will be good news."

Beverley, who is averaging 10.1 points and 3.4 assists this season, is a tenacious defender who would be sorely missed on a Rockets team that is allowing 100.2 points per game, 16th best in the league.

Howard, who has not played since Jan. 23 because of a knee injury, returned to the lineup Wednesday and had four points in a 95-93 win over the New Orleans Pelicans.
