Reports: Wall close to $80M extension

John Wall appears to be staying with the Washington Wizards.

The 22-year-old point guard is closing in on a five-year, $80 million contract extension with the team, according to multiple reports.

Wall, who is entering his fourth season in the NBA, is in Las Vegas for Team USA’s minicamp, vying for a spot on the 2014 team that will compete in the FIBA World Cup in Spain and the 2016 Olympic squad.

Wall, who was limited to 49 games last season while recovering from knee surgery, would become a restricted free agent if the two sides fail to reach an agreement before July 1, 2014. He averaged 18.5 points and 7.6 assists while shooting a career-best 44 percent from the field last season.
