Reports: Rockets' Howard will not be charged with child abuse
Houston Rockets center Dwight Howard will not be charged with abusing one of his children following accusations by the child's mother, according to multiple reports.
"I can confirm we are not moving forward with charges in this case," said Sgt. Gregory Lyon of the Atlanta (Ga.) Police Department, in an email to FOX 26 Sports in Houston.
Howard's attorney, David Oscar Markus, released this statement to FOX 26: "We are gratified that the Atlanta Police Department, after fully examining the frivolous allegations against Dwight Howard, has closed the case and decided not to proceed with charges."
The child's mother alleged that Howard beat the then-six-year-old boy with a belt in an incident in 2014.
Howard, limited to 40 games this season because of a knee injury, is averaging 15.8 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. He has recorded double-doubles in the past three games for Houston, which is tied with the San Antonio Spurs and Los Angeles Clippers for the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference.
