Report: Timberwolves to open against Lakers

Published Aug. 12, 2015 1:18 p.m. ET

The NBA schedule is set to be released Wednesday night at 6 p.m. ET, so that means the leaks are getting ready to come out. We already have our first Timberwolves-related one, courtesy of the Los Angeles Times' Mike Bresnahan:

How far have the Lakers fallen? They used to be opening up against championship-contending teams. Now, they're starting their year against the squad that had the worst record in the NBA a season ago, because the most enticing part of their team is the guy who was drafted really highly a few months prior. What a downfall.

This should still be fun, though, and even though these squads had two of the worst records in the Western Conference last season, that doesn't mean they're equally as bad this year. Minny obviously has the addition of Towns and a healthier roster on opening night that includes Ricky Rubio and Nikola Pekovic. The Lakers, meanwhile, have Russell, Jerome Randle and a healthy Kobe Bryant along with some free-agent additions.

At the very least, this should be a fun way to start the season. Get pumped for Towns.
