Report: Rockets interview McHale

Former Minnestoa Timberwolves coach Kevin McHale interviewed with the Houston Rockets Tuesday as the team searches for its next head coach, according to sources cited by myFOXhouston.com.

McHale is one of at least 10 candidates known to have interviewed to become the Rockets' next head coach.

The list includes former Atlanta Hawks coach Mike Woodson, former New Jersey Nets coach Lawrence Frank, former Timberwolves coach Dwane Casey, Indiana Pacers interim head coach Frank Vogel and former NBA head coach John Lucas.

The Rockets have also met with their own assistant coach Jack Sikma, Sacramento Kings assistant Mario Elie, Washington Wizards assistant Sam Cassell and Milwaukee Bucks assistant Kelvin Sampson.

McHale was the Timberwolves Vice President of Basketball Operations from 1995 until midway through the 2005 season, when he took over as head coach.

After going 19-12 the rest of the 2005 season, McHale returned to the Timberwolves front office, only to coach the team again during the 2008-2009 season.

His overall record during his two stints with Minnesota was 39-55.

McHale did not return to the Timberwolves organization after the 2008-09 season and is currently a television analyst with Turner Sports and NBA TV.

As a player he was a seven-time All-Star with the Boston Celtics, where he won three NBA championships.
