Report: NBA coaches to honor late Flip Saunders with touching tribute
The NBA world was rocked by the loss of longtime head coach Flip Saunders over the weekend. Saunders, who had most recently coached the Minnesota Timberwolves, was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma and had been undergoing treatment all summer before passing away on Sunday. He was 60 years old.
Memorials and well wishes to the Saunders family came in droves as news spread. And in a press release late Sunday, the NBA Coaches Association announced that coaches this season will wear a lapel pin in honor of their late colleague:
The Wolves had reportedly been in the midst of practice when news of Saunders' passing reached the team. Basketball activities were halted, and Kevin Garnett walked straight to Saunders' parking space, according to the Associated Press.
Saunders had been hospitalized for more than a month.
