Report: Kobe Bryant has reached out to DeAndre Jordan

Published Jun. 30, 2015 2:18 p.m. ET

DeAndre Jordan is flirting with a few teams on the open market. And if he stays in L.A., it's no guarantee he'll continue to wear red, blue and white.

Nope, Jordan might end up staying at the Staples Center, but playing for the other team. Reports surfaced the other day he will meet with the Lakers. Now, the most prominent of all Lakers is personally recruiting him, as reported by Brad Turner of the L.A. Times:

"Jordan has gotten a call from Lakers guard Kobe Bryant, the officials said. Bryant wanted Jordan to know the Lakers are interested."

Well, if Kobe comes calling, you know it's serious.

Jordan could actually work quite nicely on the Lakers roster. He doesn't need the ball much, could set screens for Kobe and D'Angelo Russell and could fix all of their defensive mistakes on the other end. Plus, if "the Kobe assist," a miss that's more efficient because it's more likely to be rebounded by an offensive player, is actually a thing as many believe it to be, imagine how many offensive boards Jordan could end up gobbling up.
