Report: Dwyane Wade could consider joining the Clippers

That's right. You read that headline correct. There is a report out there saying the Clippers could be contenders to sign Dwyane Wade if the long-time Miami Heat shooting guard were to opt out of his contract this summer, a distinct possibility.

Here's more from Frank Isola's report in the New York Daily News:

He's certainly right about one thing: L.A. would have to do a bunch of cap maneuvering in order to sign Wade, who you'd have to imagine wouldn't sign for a minimum deal after opting out of his expensive contract so that he can get more money. If we assume Wade won't take an extreme discount, there's only one way L.A. could sign him: It'd have to prioritize his arrival starting right about now.

The Clips would have to waive Jamal Crawford and Matt Barnes (whose contracts are only partially guaranteed if released before July 1 and June 30, respectively, when free agency begins). They would have to renounce DeAndre Jordan and watch him walk in free agency. They would have to let go of Lester Hudson and Jordan Hamilton, whose contracts are non-guaranteed for next year. If they make all those moves, they still couldn't open up max cap space, but at least they could make a nice offer. But there's one problem: They'd be making their team significantly worse to sign a perennially injured former great who still has it on 40 percent of nights but who looks like a shell of his former self the rest of the time.

So, the Clippers probably aren't signing Dwyane Wade, but heck, a man can still dream.

If Dwyane Wade does the unexpected and leaves Miami he could end up in one of two places; Los Angeles (Clippers) or New York.

For Wade to join the Clippers and his good buddy Chris Paul it would take some creativity since the Clippers are over the salary cap. The Knicks and Carmelo Anthony have the cap space but would Wade want to join a team that won 17 games last season?

After giving the Heat financial flexibility in recent years to sign, among others LeBron James, the All-Star guard is looking for a big pay day. The biggest drawback is that Wade will turn 34 next season and hasn’t played more than 70 games since the 2010-11 season. He’s missed 48 games over the last two seasons.
