Report: Arron Afflalo to opt out of Blazers contract, become free agent

Published Jun. 22, 2015 3:16 p.m. ET

According to NBA.com's David Aldridge, Portland Trail Blazers guard Arron Afflalo is expected to opt out of his current contract and become an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

This doesn't necessarily mean that Afflalo won't re-sign on a long-term deal with the Blazers, but one would think he'll now demand a contract above the $7.75 million he was due for the 2015-16 season.

Afflalo, 29, played in 25 games for the Blazers after being acquired in a trade from the Denver Nuggets. Afflalo averaged 10.6 points per game with the Blazers last season and is expected to join teammates Wesley Matthews and LaMarcus Aldridge in unrestricted free agency starting July 1.
