Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry has supplanted LeBron James and now stands as the most popular NBA player in America, according to the findings of Public Policy Polling studyvia ESPN.

The study was conducted shortly after Curry won the MVP, arguably influencing the results to some degree.

Fans were asked which team they want to win the title, with the Warriors topping the list at 19 percent and the Bulls (oh well) second at 17 percent, and who their favorite player is. According to the results, fans “are similarly divided when it comes to who their favorite player in the league is — 19% pick Stephen Curry to 18% for LeBron James, 14% for Kobe Bryant, 13% for Kevin Durant, 10% for Tim Duncan, 5% for Derrick Rose, and 4% each for Dirk Nowitzki and Chris Paul.” Twelve percent responded with “Someone else/Not sure.”

The poll surveyed 1,471 registered voters between May 7 and May 10 and the margin for error is a reported 2.6 percent. Given Curry narrowly edged James, it’s within reason to believe James remains America’s favorite NBA player.

And it may not come as much of a surprise that the poll indicates a whopping 77 percent believe Michael Jordan is the best player of all time and only 14 percent give the nod to James, but 34 percent of fans said they believe MJ — at 54 years old — still could beat King James one-on-one. Ouch.

The poll also sought out opinions on the PGA Tour, the Mayweather-Pacquiao bout and the Stanley Cup Playoffs. See all the results here.
