Philadelphia 76ers: It Is Time For A Sleeved Jersey
Teams across the NBA have sleeved jerseys. It is time for the Philadelphia 76ers to join the rest of the league in trendy alternative sleeved jerseys.
The Sacramento Kings are the most recent team going under a re-branding this off season. It creates buzz with teams that need help creating a new identity that hav recently gone through a rough patch. The Philadelphia 76ers recently went through a re-branding themselves and besides the new logo, were able to get three uniforms out the process.
After that, former president and general manager Sam Hinkie did a great job with the re-branding, but he left out one very important aspect when he pushed through the process. The Sixers need a city/sleeved alternative uniform to complete the re-branding. Including one of the Philadelphia 76ers legends is key in this re-branded and uniform expansion.
The 76ers went through one of the worst seasons in NBA history after they released new jerseys. The logo and uniforms where made to remind the city of the rich basketball history. Having another alternative uniform would allow for more sells revenue for the franchise, but also allow it to remember another part of Philadelphia basketball history.
More from The Sixer Sense
Allen Iverson is a Sixers legend and was recently inducted into the Hall of Fame. There would be no better way for the franchise to pay him homage then to have an alternative jersey designed from the his era of basketball.
The uniform can be sleeved to help keep a contemporary NBA feel, while keeping the primary color black, as well as, secondary colors being white and red. Those colors were a main colors during Iverson’s prime and would honor him great.
Instead of having “Phila” or “Sixers” as the wording on the front the Philadelphia 76ers could have “Crossover City” on the front. The Portland Trail Blazers did something similar with “Rip City” on their sleeved alternative uniforms. More importantly, “Crossover City” would honor Iverson’s signature move that helped make him legendary and it would give the City aspect to the alternative uniform.
I have not heard anything in regards to another uniform coming out. The Sixers honoring Allen Iverson by designing a uniform based on his era of Philadelphia basketball would only be fitting with the recent Hall of Fame induction. Adding sleeved uniforms would only help fans forget the pain associated with “The Process.” Sleeved uniforms are an idea that the Sixers should seriously consider and along with a young superstar in Ben Simmons to push the product, there is no reason not to.
