Orlando Magic to broadcast remaining preseason games

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

The Orlando Magic will broadcast all remaining preseason games, announcing they will live stream Friday’s and next Thursday’s games from the Amway Center.

The Orlando Magic will broadcast their four remaining preseason games in some fashion, announcing the team’s game Friday against the Indiana Pacers and the team’s preseason finale next Thursday against the New Orleans Pelicans will broadcast on OrlandoMagic.com. The broadcast will stream in a similar fashion to Wednesday’s game against the San Antonio Spurs, the first ever Magic broadcast using Facebook Live.

Per NBA rules, the same 75-mile broadcast restriction remains, meaning the broadcast will be limited to a 75-mile radius of the Amway Center. That will include areas like Daytona Beach, Ocala and Lakeland. But the broadcast will not reach Jacksonville, Tallahassee or Tampa.

The Magic are also hosting the stream on OrlandoMagic.com rather than through Facebook Live, it appears. The technology may be roughly the same.

During Wednesday’s game several fans expressed frustration to Orlando Magic Daily with their inability to watch the game despite being within the 75-mile radius. Even some reporters in the media loge at Amway Center were unable to bring the game up.

Hopefully those technological issues are resolved.

The stream will integrate the Amway Center’s in-arena broadcast feed (what shows up on the JumboTron) with the Magic’s radio broadcast team of Dennis Neumann and Richie Adubato once again providing commentary.

The Magic were among the first teams to experiment with broadcasting preseason games using Facebook Live. It is part of a larger online media push with the NBA. The league broadcasted all the friendlies for U.S. Basketball in preparation for the Olympics too.

With so few preseason games on television, fans are certainly hungry for this kind of coverage to watch their team prepare for the season.

Magic fans are extremely lucky. only one of their preseason games did not have any video broadcast. That was the opener against the Memphis Grizzlies last week.

The Magic will hold their first television broadcast Sunday when FOX Sports Florida broadcasts their game against the Atlanta Hawks. They will also broadcast Tuesday’s game in Miami against the Miami Heat.

The broadcast for Friday’s game will start at 7 p.m. on OrlandoMagic.com as the Magic take on the Pacers.
