New York Knicks: Kristaps Porzingis Sets Lofty Goal

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Kristaps Porzingis of the New York Knicks has set a unique individual goal for this season. What does the young star hope to accomplish?

The New York Knicks have a unique star in forward Kristaps Porzingis. In his rookie season, Porzingis took the league by storm and surprised everybody. Most scouts believed that it would be a few years before we saw Porzingis begin to show his potential, but he made that potential known right away.

In his rookie season, Porzingis averaged 14.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks per game. If it wasn’t for Karl-Anthony Towns of the Minnesota Timberwolves, Porzingis very well could have been the rookie of the year.

While the Knicks have some big team goals this season, Porzingis has set a lofty one for himself. This season, Porzingis would like to record a quadruple-double.

“It’s been a while (since somebody did it),” Porzingis said following Friday’s practice to Stefan Bondy of the NYDailyNews. “It’s not impossible. That’s the goal right there.”

The last time a player was able to record a quadruple-double was in 1994 when San Antonio Spurs’ center David Robinson accomplished the feat. It is certainly one of the rarest feats in basketball, as only four players have done it.

“You’ve got to be in position where you have the ball a lot and make plays for your teammates as well. And the ten blocks, of course is not easy either. It’s possible,”

While it is a lofty goal to set, Porzingis is that rare type of talent that can accomplish things like this. Porzingis’ new coach jeff Hornacek doesn’t know he if he will be able to do it, but he would love to see it.

“Boy, I don’t know (if Porzingis can do it). That’s pushing it,” Knicks coach Jeff Hornacek said to Bondy. “If he can, hey, I want to be there that night.”

If Porzingis is able to record a quadruple-double either this season or anytime in his career with the Knicks, it will certainly go down as one of the best moments in franchise history. There is a ton of potential in Porzingis, and he is just getting started.
