New York Knicks: Brandon Jennings Shows Old School Attitude
The New York Knicks were able to defeat the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday night. In the win, Brandon Jennings showed some old school attitude.
The New York Knicks were able to defeat the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday in their first meeting of the season. With the game well in hand, Brandon Jennings would not allow his teammate Willy Hernangomez to pick up Rondae Hollis-Jefferson of the Brooklyn Nets.

Even though Jennings has only been in New York for a little while, he is certainly establishing an old school culture with moves like that.
“I think when we’re between the lines and you have a New York Knicks jersey on, I think that’s all we should be worried about. That’s just that. I mean, would they help us up?” Jennings said to Ian Begley of ESPN.com. “I wouldn’t want another opponent to help me up. That’s just showing too much respect. In between the lines, you don’t have a New York jersey on, then you don’t mean nothing to me.”
The Knicks have struggled on defense this season, but against the Nets they were finally able to hold an opponent under 100 points. Being a tough and physical team will help the Knicks be better defensively, and that was the lesson Jennings was teaching Hernangomez.
“I think that’s just the toughness that we need,” Jennings said to Begley. “Going into these games against other teams, you know you’ve got to put fear in them.”
Jennings had the support of his head coach Jeff Hornacek. It has been no secret that Hornacek has been extremely disappointed in the Knicks’ effort on defense this season, and a little old school flare is a good thing for this team.
“I kind of like what Brandon did,” he said with a grin. “If you hit a guy and it’s the heat of the battle, if you whack a guy in the face then [it’s acceptable to help him up]. But most of the time in the heat of the battle, if there’s a collision, you’re not helping the guy up. That’s just part of the battle.”
The Knicks will be playing the Boston Celtics on Friday night. With talented a talented offensive player like Isaiah Thomas on the Celtics, the Knicks will need to bring this old school attitude up to Boston to walk out with a win.
