Davis will be a part of the “Bigs” group in the Skills Challenge, which will mimic the 2016 competition that pitted “Bigs vs Smalls”.
Davis will be up against the likes of Kristaps Porzinigis, DeMarcus Cousins and Joel Embiid in the contest. The “Smalls” side will feature Isaiah Thomas, John Wall, Devin Booker and Gordon Hayward.
Davis may see a rematch of last year, after he lost his matchup last year to Kings big DeMarcus “Boogie” Cousins.
The contest last year included dribbling through a course of obstacles, completing a chest pass to a target area, running and completing a layup and finally running back to hit a three-point shot before your opponent. Davis could not make the three-pointer last year and was eliminated in the initial round.
While this event likely will not have the hype of the Three-Point Contest or Dunk Contest, it is still a chance for the home faithful to cheer for a hometown hero. Davis did not have the best showing last year in this contest. What better way to gain redemption than to redeem himself on his home floor against the best in the league?
The Skills Contest will be the first event during the Saturday festivities of the All-Star Weekend in New Orleans. The contest is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. CST and will air on TNT.
