Nets reportedly reach buyout agreement with Lawrence Frank

The Brooklyn Nets have reached a buyout agreement with assistant coach Lawrence Frank, according to multiple reports.

Frank was demoted to "writing daily reports" by Nets former head coach Jason Kidd last season and wasn't named to the staff of the team's current head coach, Lionel Hollins. Frank's demotion was stunning at that time because Kidd, who had no coaching experience, handpicked Frank to be his top assistant.

The Nets, who were expected to be one of the top teams in the East, got off to a slow start last season and Kidd announced last December that Frank would no longer sit on the bench.

"This is the decision that I had to make, and we made it and we move on," Kidd told reporters after the decision was announced. "This is my decision in the sense of what I had to do. It's about basketball. That's it."

Kidd and Frank reportedly clashed when Kidd returned from a two-game suspension to start the season. The Nets went on to finish sixth in the East and upset the No. 3-seeded Toronto Raptors in the first round of the playoffs but were eliminated by the Miami Heat in the next round.

Kidd abruptly left the Nets in the offseason after he sought increased power over basketball operations with the team, but the Nets denied his request. The Bucks asked for and received permission to interview Kidd despite still having head coach Larry Drew under contract. Milwaukee eventually fired Drew and officially hired Kidd.
