NBA Rumors: Cavs Interested In Norris Cole, Mario Chalmers?

NBA Rumors: The Cleveland Cavaliers are reportedly interested in signing Norris Cole, Mario Chalmers or Kirk Hinrich now that Mo Williams has retired

Now that Mo Williams has officially retired, the Cleveland Cavaliers are going to need to find a replacement, and one that probably has some experience playing the point guard position.

At the moment, all the Cavs have behind Kyrie Irving is Kay Felder and Jordan McRae. Felder is a rookie and McRae has played a grand total of 22 games in the NBA. That’s not ideal. Hopefully, though, the Cavs can change some of that inexperience with a signing in the next day or two.

According to Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com, the Cavs have kept their eyes on Norris Cole, Mario Chalmers and Kirk Hinrich throughout the offseason.

If the Cavs make a move to address their backup point guard position, expect one of those names to be called upon.

While Griffin said he felt “comfortable” with the Cavs’ current point guard situation — behind Kyrie Irving now is only rookie Kay Felder — the team has on its radar free agents Norris Cole, Mario Chalmers, and Kirk Hinrich.

The Cavs have been in contact with all three players this summer, a source said, in anticipation of Williams’ move.

Interestingly, there’s still another player out there that needs to be signed by the Cavs, too. J.R. Smith, who will begin the 2016-17 season on the sideline.

Training camps officially begin Tuesday, and he’s still without a contract. Weird.

However, it should be noted that Tristan Thompson re-signed with the Cavs on October 22 last season. So, all hope shouldn’t be lost when it comes to Smith joining the team before the season starts.
