NBA Futures: Values, Long Shots and No Shots
FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY, OBV.
With the blazingly hot summer months behind us and only one blazingly hot autumn month until opening night, Fastbreak Breakfast has convened in full for S2 Ep. 39 “NBA Futures Scattered & Smothered.” Before we actually see these teams roll out a basketball, before we see the biggish free agents don their new uniforms, before we see Joel Embiid log his first professional minute, let’s pick some winners why don’t we?
Chuck (@themightychuck) and Jon (@masterjonburr), equally tanned and appalled at how exclusively basketball-centric the off-season interview podcasts have been, finally return to talk breakfast, movies and just a little bit of gambling.
Is there any reason to wager on anyone but the Warriors? What are the value plays? If you are gonna take an extreme long-shot for fun, who can you talk yourself into? Russell Westbrook is the favorite to win the MVP, but should he be? Is this the best category to win some money? On a scale of Louis CK to Richard Pryor, how funny are Carmelo’s odds? Will the Rookie of the Year once again go to whoever compiles the most traditional stats on a terrible team? Which new guys may have a path to plenty of playing time, and thus an opportunity to pile up the aforementioned stats?
We also cover a handful of available prop bets, including some comic ones from this Hardwood Paroxysm article by Dar-Wei Chen (@chendw).
So get ready to lose all your imaginary money to your imaginary bookie. Good luck!
If you have missed them, there are previous Fastbreak Breakfast off-season podcasts focusing on the Lakers, Nuggets, Timberwolves, Grizzlies, Pacers, Bucks, Hawks, Heat,Jazz, Knicks, Kings, plus player interviews with Wade Baldwin IV and Brandan Wright. Fastbreak Breakfast episodes are also available on iTunes, Stitcher and Soundcloud.
