Metta World Peace as a vampire?

Published Aug. 14, 2012 1:00 a.m. ET

Metta World Peace is a strange cat on the basketball court, so it's only fitting that his acting career is also somewhat odd.

The mercurial Lakers star has joined the cast of an originally scripted, spoof pilot called "Real Vampire Housewives", according to a press release. He'll apparently be playing a "gregarious and overtly sexual vampire elder."

Sounds about right.

A sex-crazed vampire elder character, which will go by the name "Gossamer," seems like a natural fit for World Peace, who, as mentioned, has been prone to bizarre antics throughout his professional basketball career. The pilot's writer and director, Andre Jetmir, realized just how good of a match it was, and he couldn't pass up the opportunity to give World Peace the role.

"[Producer] Robert [A. Parada] mentioned Metta World Peace and it was yes in an instant," Jetmir said, according to the release. "Metta is perfect as a vampire; he is physically intimidating in an Alpha-male way, very charming, a little mischievous and he has a raw sexuality I think most actors try to find when they play a vampire."

World Peace will never be considered the perfect citizen, but we can all take solace in the fact that he's the perfect vampire. Hopefully, the pilot takes off and we're able to see what he's all about while rocking some fangs.

"Real Vampire Housewives", which is the second original series produced by the recently formed All Parts Equal production company, apparently follows a group of mischievous women who are married to vampires.

Can't wait. (Yes, that's sarcasm).
