LeBron and Kevin Love met in Los Angeles

Prepare your private plane trackers and get ready to read into every tea leaf you can find: NBA silly season is upon us. Around this time last year, Cavs fans took it upon themselves to track Dan Gilbert’s plane in an effort to figure out if he and LeBron James were breaking bread in Florida. Now? We have a photo emerging from a LeBron James-Kevin Love poolside meeting in Los Angeles.

That photo comes to us from Jensen Karp, a writer/podcaster/entrepreneur (?) who owns an art gallery in L.A. and whose work has been featured in Rolling Stone among other places. He’s no Adrian Wojnarowski, as he says, but he’s legit enough to have the little blue check mark verifying his Twitter identity, for whatever that’s worth.

LeBron and Love’s SoCal meeting — reportedly at the Beverly Hills Hotel — was confirmed by ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, although Windy stopped short of calling it free agency-related.

Perhaps Kevin and LeBron were simply soaking up rays and spending some time getting to know each other off the court. Perhaps they got along better than anyone realized this season and just wanted to have a chat away from all (er, most) of the cameras and lights. Perhaps they were discussing Love’s upcoming appearance in ESPN The Magazine’s Body Issue.

In any event, it feels odd to see the two together a few days after LeBron said that he would not be actively lobbying Love to stay in Cleveland.

At this point (and before this point, frankly), anything I add would be stacking one baseless rumor on top of another. I had hoped that more would be revealed between last night and this morning, but alas. For now, we can look at the two Cavs poolside and fall back on that old saying about smoke and fire.
