Kobe Bryant once had a hilariously intense road race with Lakers announcer
Kobe Bryant has less than half a season left in his career. So, the stories are starting to come out. The legend of the Mamba is ever-extending. And apparently, his competitive streak flows outside of the basketball arena.
Lakers broadcaster Bill MacDonald, who lives near Bryant, recently told a story to Serena Winters of Complex.com about the time he raced the future Hall of Famer back home after a game.
I’m driving down the 405 and I see Kobe’s car in front of me. It was stopped and I happened to blow right past him with my f****** hand and my middle finger out the window like ‘F*** you!’ and I’m screaming at him and what does he do? We proceed to play cat and mouse for the next 25 minutes all the way down the San Diego freeways, breaking all kind of rules…Now, his car was a little more expensive than mine and a little more high performance and there was no way in his competitiveness, that he was going to lose to me, so when we crossed the finish line and the checkered flag came out, Bryant beat me home.”
You can just imagine how Kobe reacted to what could only be described as "some guy" talking a big game in the middle of a competitive race. You don't trash talk Kobe Bryant. You never trash talk Kobe Bryant. Don't you know who he is?
One could call that a rookie move by MacDonald, but it's not even that, because even rookies know they can't trash talk Kobe. So, it's more like a D-League move.
Surely, MacDonald is happy about it, though. He got to stand up to the Mamba and got a great story out of it. What's better than that?
