Knicks: Willy Hernangomez, Kristaps Porzingis Training Together
Recently signed big man Willy Hernangomez has officially arrived in New York. The New York Knicks’ new international phenom is already training with his new teammates.
In the pursuit of an elusive third championship, the New York Knicks have committed their resources to a global scouting system. Rather than focusing solely on American-born prospects, New York has made it a habit to study Liga ACB players.
The latest addition from Liga ACB, Willy Hernangomez, has officially initiated his time as a member of the New York Knicks.
Hernangomez signed a four-year deal worth just under $5.8 million during the summer of 2016. It was a momentous occasion for the Knicks, as they officially inked their second-round draft pick from 2015.
Hernangomez began training with a new Knicks teammate, Kristaps Porzingis, on his first day in New York.

That’s dedication.
Hernangomez and Porzingis were teammates in Spain from 2013 to 2015. They formed a close friendship, as evidenced by Porzingis calling Hernangomez his brother, and developed intriguing chemistry on the court.
The hope in New York is that Hernangomez and Porzingis can become the Knicks’ long-term starting interior.
For those unfamiliar, Hernangomez is a 6’11” and 255-pound center with a near 7’2″ wingspan and a 9’1″ standing reach. He’s not an explosive athlete, but he runs the floor well and is a quality dive man off the pick and roll.
A tenacious offensive rebounder who will create second-chance scoring opportunities, Hernangomez has legitimate NBA potential.
Hernangomez broke out on the national stage during the 2016 Summer Olympics. He scored 11 points in 16 minutes against Nigeria, had nine points in 17 minutes against Lithuania, and posted 16 points and five rebounds in 17 minutes against France.
On his first day in his new home, Hernangomez made it a point to train with his close friend and new Knicks teammate.
His work ethic is already New York strong.
