Knicks Rumors: Brandon Jennings Plans To Re-Sign In 2017
New York Knicks point guard Brandon Jennings may have deleted his tweet, but the words were said and read: he wants to re-sign in 2017.
The New York Knicks made a steal of a signing during the summer of 2016. As the NBA world either criticized Phil Jackson or ignored the good he did, The Zen Master quietly inked Brandon Jennings to a one-year deal worth $5 million.
There’s no telling what the future will hold for Jennings beyond this one-year trial run, but he already knows what he wants.
Jennings ruptured his achilles tendon in January of 2015. He made his return to the NBA less than a year later, playing in 48 of a possible 53 games after missing the first 29.
In a tweet that has since been deleted, Jennings outright stated that he plans to re-sign during the summer of 2017. His exact words:
I plan on staying. It’s nothing like being a knick I feel the energy already!
Much could change between now and July, but that’s an encouraging sign.
If Jennings is able to remain healthy in 2016-17, he should have a solid season. A starting point guard must pick their spots, which is why Jennings, who has been labeled a gunner, is perfect for the role of the sixth man.
As the sixth man, Jennings’ minutes will be dedicated to providing instant offense.
Jennings is more than capable of creating for himself and others. He boasts career averages of 15.5 points, 5.9 assists, and 1.8 3-point field goals made in 32.3 minutes per game.
Jennings’ production dipped in 2015-16, but that was more a product of his shaking off the rust and getting his legs back under him.
Once Jennings’ contract expires, he’ll be an unrestricted free agent. That gives him the right to choose whichever team he prefers in 2017, which means New York could conceivably lose him.
Jennings seems to want to return.
