Knicks Preview: Will The Unicorn Get His Revenge On The KAT?

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

The New York Knicks will host the Minnesota Timberwolves at Madison Square Garden on Friday, December 2. How will it all transpire?

On Wednesday night, former number one pick Karl Anthony Towns put up 47 points on 15-of-22 shooting, along with 18 rebounds, against the New York Knicks. While KAT outplayed Kristaps Porzingis in their first matchup of the 2016-17 NBA season, New York edged out a win because of Carmelo Anthony’s game-winning jumper with 2.4 seconds left.

If Melo hadn’t hit the game-winner, the Knicks would have blown a 17-point fourth quarter lead, fell to 1-7 on the road, and 8-10 on the season.

Instead, the Knicks are 9-9 on the season, and host the Minnesota Timberwolves at Madison Square Garden tonight, as they look to get their 10th victory and get over 500. Unfortunately, New York will be without starting center Joakim Noah and starting shooting guard Courtney Lee, who sprained his ankle in the Minnesota game on Wednesday.

While Lee will be missing his first game this season, the Knicks welcome back Lance Thomas, who hasn’t played since November 11th.

Tonight’s Prediction:

If the Knicks were healthy tonight, Joakim Noah could have helped alleviate the stress of Karl Anthony Towns in the post, taking some stress off KP.  With two starters out, I expect this to be a highly contested game. The Timberwolves are going to come out aggressive and looking to avenge their loss from Wednesday night. I also expect a big night from the Knicks’ Big 3 of Melo, Porzingis, and Rose, being that the Knicks are undermanned tonight.

Bold Prediction #1

The Knicks’ Big 3 of Carmelo Anthony, Kristaps Porzingis, and Derrick Rose will drop a combined 70 points. They currently average a combined 60.0 points per game.

Bold Prediction #2

The Unicorn outplays KAT this time, scoring 30 points and adding eight rebounds with two blocks.

Bold Prediction #3

New York will win a close one tonight, 106-101.
