Kevin Durant going to speak freely from now

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Kevin Durant is clearly frustrated with how fans and media are interpreting his words  and, even, his silence. He’s now going to say exactly what he feels.

Kevin Durant is tired of having his words misconstrued. One of the few superstars in the entire NBA, he’s constantly under a microscope. Since decided to join the Golden State Warriors, even more eyes have been on his every move.

Leaving the Oklahoma City Thunder for the Warriors was not a popular move. Durant knew this. He expected the eventual backlash. Everyone from fans to his peers criticized the move, questioning his competitive nature.

Durant is generally a nice, quiet guy. Now it seems like he feels like he’s been those things to a fault. He’s over it (via CSN Bay Area):

“Man, whatever I say is going to be twisted up,” he said after going through a 90-minute practice. “So I can’t . . . I’m just going to say how I feel from now on. People that know me know what I mean, so it is what it is. Anything I say will be twisted up and be a headline. So it is what it is.”

Durant understands what’s going on. He’s read the tweets and articles. He’s listened to the talk show hosts and critics. He knows that everything he says and does will be dissected if he’s not extremely clear.

He recently admitted that he was “glad” the Warriors lost in the Finals. Basically, it gave him a window and a reason to sign with Golden State. Durant is now comfortable enough to say that. With guys like Klay Thompson talking about how grown men get their feelings hurt and Draymond Green being Draymond Green, Durant is going to have some competition for best quotes this year.

But if he’s serious about speaking his mind, he can definitely ether anyone that looks at him wrong.
