If any NBA team was ever capable of extracting the prodigious talent Jimmer Fredette displayed in college, the San Antonio Spurs are it. At least, that was the idea when San Antonio signed Fredette to a training camp contract over the summer.

But, unfortunately, the relationship wasn't meant to be. According to Yahoo's Shams Charania, the Spurs will waive Fredette on Wednesday, along with Deshaun Thomas and Youssou Ndoye:

Fredette's preseason was a total disappointment. In two games, he scored just four points and failed to make a single three.

As part of his partially guaranteed deal to go to camp with San Antonio, the Spurs paid Fredette $500,000 for the season. For the 6-foot-2 Fredette, finding an ideal fit for his size and shooting ability is uncertain. After failing to gain traction with the Sacramento Kings – who acquired him from the Milwaukke Bucks in a 2011 draft-day deal – Chicago Bulls and New Orleans Pelicans, the Spurs had hoped Fredette could fill a need for perimeter shooting.
