Is Dwight Howard's title window more closed than open?

Published Apr. 29, 2015 4:29 p.m. ET

Dwight Howard is only 29 years old, but has a ton of mileage on his body. He's had serious back and shoulder injuries and relies on supreme athleticism to takeover games on both ends of the floor.

These are all undeniable reasons why Howard needs to win a championship this season, before his proverbial window slams shut, per Bleacher Report's Dan Favale.

"At no point over the last decade-plus has his career mortality been more apparent. He missed more games this past regular season (41) than his previous 10 combined (36). He has seen James Harden surpass him not only in locker room status but in the pantheon of NBA superstars in general."

Can Howard win the title next season if Houston falls short in 2015? Of course he can. But who knows what will happen by then? He's so close right now, playing for a team that's built to win a championship. As Howard knows all too well (he hasn't made the Finals since 2009), nothing in the NBA is guaranteed.
