Gomes out with high ankle sprain

Published Dec. 17, 2009 12:40 p.m. ET

Minnesota Timberwolves forward Ryan Gomes was inactive for the game Wednesday night against the Clippers because of a sprained left ankle.

Gomes sustained the more serious high ankle sprain against Sacramento on Saturday. He did not play against Utah on Monday and is listed as day to day.

Gomes is averaging 12 points and 5.3 rebounds. Veteran forward Damien Wilkins has taken his place in the starting lineup for the Timberwolves.

Gomes said he has begun rehab work, but is having trouble with lateral movement. It's the first time in his five-year career that he has had this kind of injury. He says he will continue to do treatment and conditioning until the pain subsides.
