The former Charlotte Bobcats‘ head coach may be making the move to high school after most recently coaching at the college level.

Brown resigned as the head coach for the Southern Methodist University basketball team this past July. He had been their since 2012 after coaching the Bobcats from 2008-2010. His storied coaching career may be heading to one of the lowest levels of basketball in high school play.

Although high school basketball is prevalent in the United States with plenty of talented kids, it is still surprising that Larry Brown would make the move. He has previously coached in the NBA for the New York Knicks, the Detroit Pistons, the Philadelphia 76ers, the Indiana Pacers, the Los Angeles Clippers, the San Antonio Spurs, the New Jersey Nets, and the Denver Nuggets. He also coached in college for UCLA and Kansas before recently coaching SMU.

After a short career as a player, Larry Brown has been coaching since basketball since 1965. The Charlotte franchise was the last NBA team that the 76-year old coached. He led the team to their first franchise appearance since returning to the city in 2004. He had an 88-104 record with the Bobcats.

Brown has coached the fifth most games in team history (192), fifth most wins (88), and the fifth best winning percentage (.458). Larry wasn’t the best coach in Charlotte’s history but he did have a positive impact in his two and a half seasons. His lasting memory for the Bobcats’ will be that he led the team to their first playoff appearance.

Brown is the only coach to ever win an NCAA Championship and an NBA Championship. He will go down as one of the best coaches in basketball history. He could be ending his career as a high school coach which many could have never imagined.

It is interesting that the Hall of Fame coach may be making his way to high school basketball after a long career at the highest level. It would be great for young kids to learn from such an experienced coach. Larry Brown could be a valued addition to high school basketball.
