Fans are roasting Kevin Durant for this tweet from 2010 criticizing superteams
Kevin Durant, undoubtedly one of the five best players in the NBA, announced Monday that he'll be joining a team that set a record by winning 73 regular season games last season, and his fellow NBA players aren't very excited about the new Golden State Warriors lineup.
In the days leading up to Durant's decision, some very dedicated Twitter users dug up some of Durant's old tweets, most of which are hilarious to look at years later.
One tweet in particular, posted eight days after LeBron James made "The Decision" in 2010, has gone viral (again).
Many fans are calling Durant a hypocrite for joining the Warriors instead of remaining in Oklahoma City or going to a club not already considered a title contender (like Boston), but that's a little unfair to Durant.
Durant tweeted this in 2010, at the age of 21. Six years later, he still hasn't won a title. Had Durant remained in Oklahoma City or gone to any team other than Golden State (and arguably San Antonio), his team would not have been the title favorite, and there's a decent chance that he could have gone on to never win a title. By going to Golden State, he gives himself the best possible chance to win - and while his decision does indeed hage huge ramifications for the rest of the league and is clearly an unpopular one among all but Warriors fans, it's hard to blame him for wanting to win a title at all costs. His priorities have changed, and that's natural for NBA players.
