Deron Williams on Kentucky making playoffs: 'That's crazy'

SMU head coach Larry Brown stoked the flames of the infernal “could Kentucky beat an NBA team?” debate earlier this week by saying he thinks that John Calipari’s undefeated Wildcats are good enough to make the NBA’s Eastern Conference playoffs. The star of one of the teams fighting to do just that vehemently disagrees with the Hall of Famer.

Brooklyn Nets point guard Deron Williams was asked about Brown’s quote on Friday, and he tapped into his inner-Jim Mora in response.

“Making the playoffs? Playoffs!?” Williams said, via Andy Vasquez of NorthJersey.com. "There’s no way. I wish they would come in here. They’re really good. They are really good. Don’t let me take anything away from them. But that’s just crazy.

"It sounds good. Could they win a game at some point in the season? Yeah. I’m saying they could probably win a game. Maybe. Once, twice. When you have a team full of 18-, 19-year-olds it’s just completely different. You’re going to catch a team tired one night, on a back-to-back, four games in five nights, then they could give them a run. But making the East?”

Kentucky is amazing at the college level, but we tend to agree with Williams here. Unfortunately, we doubt we’ll ever truly find out the answer.
