Dennis Schroder Sits With Sore Ankle (Sept. 29 Practice)

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Dennis Schroder, starting point guard for the Atlanta Hawks, was sidelined with a sore ankle yesterday, Sept. 29.

Training camp for the Atlanta Hawks is finally here and we here at Soaring Down South couldn’t wait for it. But, while our excitement remains high for the season to approach, the reality of what could come may have dimmed a tad. Starting point guard Dennis Schroder was sidelined yesterday (Sept. 29) nursing a sore ankle. This injury, although not significant, will sideline the guard for at least a few days. Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution had the coverage for the story.

The Hawks held Dennis Schroder out of practice with a sore ankle on Thursday and the starting point guard will likely be sidelined for several days. The injury is not considered serious.

“Over the next three or four days we will continue to evaluate him” Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer said. “We’ll err on the side of caution as we usually do and put him in a rehab/recovery mode for three days.”

It is unlikely Schroder will participate in the team’s open scrimmage at Philips Arena on Saturday morning.

“The first day or two he did something,” Budenholzer said. “He could probably play and practice but its sore enough that we want to give him a couple days to get to a better place and then see how he is then.”

Although it’s considered minor, the Hawks will need Schroder to be 100% by the time the season opener begins, if not the pre-season opener. Injuries, of course, are unfortunate. We also know how severe an ankle injury can get-especially for a point guard. Hopefully, Schroder can get back fully healthy so that he can be an instrumental part of the offense. There are big things ahead for Schroder and the Atlanta Hawks this season, so we hope he gets well soon.
