Curry, Durant on Warriors blowout loss to Spurs: 'A slap in the face'
The Golden State Warriors are overwhelmingly odds on favorites to take home their second title in three years, but after their opening night game against the San Antonio Spurs, several Warriors players said the way they performed was a wake-up call.
The Warriors were ran out of the own gym on Tuesday night, getting blown out 129–100 by the Spurs.
"It's a nice little slap in the face," Warriors guard Stephen Curry said, according to ESPN.com.
"It's a slap in the face. It woke us up a bit, and we're looking forward to getting better," forward Kevin Durant added. "We can't panic. Obviously, it's Game 1 of 82, but we definitely have to get better."
Durant scored a team-high 27 points to go along with 10 rebounds and Curry added 26 points.
The Warriors shot 7-of-33 from 3-point range, were outrebounded 64–41 and their bench was outscored 54–16.
"I'm sure the story tomorrow will be, 'KD broke up the chemistry and we can't win with KD,' and all these other things which is going to come with the territory," Warriors forward Draymond Green said. "We're looking forward to that. We already know that's coming."
The Warriors are back in action on Friday against the New Orleans Pelicans.
