Blazers reportedly agree to deal with Evan Turner, now targeting Pau Gasol
The Portland Trail Blazers surprised everyone by finishing fifth in the West last season, and then advancing to the second round of the playoffs by taking out the Clippers after Blake Griffin and Chris Paul suffered season-ending injuries.
The moves they're making in the early days of free agency suggest that the team is far from satisfied with that impressive result.
Portland has agreed to a deal with Evan Turner worth $70 million over four years, according to a report from Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports. Turner was solid off the bench for a very good Celtics team last year, and though he averaged 10.5 points, 4.9 rebounds and 4.4 assists in 28 minutes per contest, his impact will be felt more on the defensive end of the floor.
After securing Turner, Wojnarowski reports that the Blazers made an "aggressive offer" to Pau Gasol, although the years and dollars of that proposed deal were not revealed at this time.
Gasol will be 36 next season, but made the All-Star team in each of the past two years as a member of the Bulls. He averaged 16.5 points, 11 rebounds and 4.1 assists last season, and would be an upgrade to virtually any team's offense. Several teams are reportedly looking to land Gasol in free agency this summer.
