Blazers' Henderson isn't satisfied with inconsistent play

The Portland Trail Blazers are only 1.5 games out of the playoff picture in a top-heavy Western Conference, which is much more than anyone expected from them a few months ago.

But guard Gerald Henderson feels like he can help Portland reach loftier heights, if only he was more consistent.

Here's what he told The Oregonian after the Trail Blazers defeated the Denver Nuggets on Sunday night:

"I've had some good moments, but I just need to play more consistent. That's what this league's about," he said. "Nineteen points tonight is good. It helped us win. I played some good defense and I'm happy about it. But I want to just repeat it tomorrow and do the same things that are going to help us win a basketball game."

Henderson is averaging 7.0 points per game and shooting below 39 percent from the floor. He's never been more accurate from behind the three-point line, and that's all well and timely. But most of his other numbers aren't great.

If he wants to shine during a contract year, the 28-year-old needs to play better on both ends of the floor from here on out.
