A Tribute to Allen Iverson; Dallas Mavericks Edition

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

On Friday, September 9th, Allen Iverson will be inducted into the Hall of Fame. In light of this  monumental moment, here is a memory of AI against the Dallas Mavericks on December 6th, 2007.

Allen Iverson put up impressive numbers most nights he came out on the court. This back to back though, he put up crazy impressive numbers. The night before he met up with the Mavericks, Iverson had 51 points against the Lakers in a loss.

After coming out on the losing end that night, Allen Iverson decided to dish the ball to his teammates a little more, and ended with 35 points and 12 assists in a victory. He also added in 6 steals. Iverson shot 12 of 19 from the field and 11 of 13 from the foul line.

You’d figure he would’ve slowed down at least a little bit after such a strong performance the night before, but that was not the case. Iverson played 43 minutes against the Mavericks, even though he just played every single minute of the game the night before. That is impressive. Not to mention, Iverson was also 32 years old at this point. He had a motor like no other.

These two games were just two reminders of how great Allen Iverson was. This performance featured Dirk Nowitzki and Carmelo Anthony also. But, Iverson stole the show. He had a tendency to do this. No matter the stars on this court, Iverson seemed to find a way to stand out. This is what made him great.

This Hall of Fame induction class features Iverson along with Yao Ming and Shaq. All 3 of these guys had amazing careers and are certainly worthy. They all had an amazing impact on the game of basketball and meant so much to the league.

Tomorrow will be an emotional day for Allen Iverson, but I’m positive we won’t be the only ones paying tribute to him. A legend on the court, and a personality no one will ever forget. September 9th, 2016 is the day Allen Iverson will be truly recognized for his sustained greatness.
