NCWTS drivers Peters, Benning, NNS driver Carl Long penalized

NASCAR handed down penalties to two Camping World Truck Series teams and one Nationwide Series team Tuesday afternoon for rules violations that occurred during last weekend's NASCAR events.

Driver Timothy Peters' No. 17 team Red Horse Racing team that competes in the Truck Series was hit with a P3 level penalty for their Toyota being shy of the minimum combined thickness required of the trucks' throttle shaft and throttle plates.

The issue, discovered during opening-day inspection at Pocono Raceway, has resulted in crew chief Marcus Richmond being fined $7,500 and placed on NASCAR probation until Dec. 31.

Peters, who finished 12th at Pocono on Saturday afternoon, is eighth in the series standings.

Also penalized among the Truck Series ranks was driver Norm Benning's team, which was handed a P1 level penalty for improper use of a battery-powered impact wrench during Saturday's Pocono Mountains 150.

The team will be penalized with loss of track time during the opening truck practice at Michigan International Speedway on Aug. 15.

Tuesday's lone Nationwide Series penalty went to the No. 23 Rick Ware Racing team of driver Carl Long for improperly attaching weight to the car during practice at Iowa Speedway.

As a result of the violation, which NASCAR punished with a P3 level penalty, crew chief Jonas Bell has been fined $10,000 and placed on NASCAR probation until Dec. 31.
