Must a driver win at Homestead to win the title?
I know I talked the other day about the scenario that two of the four Chase finalists at Homestead could be two drivers -- Matt Kenseth and Ryan Newman -- who haven't won a race this year. That creates the possibility of our 2014 champion being someone who hasn't won a race this season.
I could be dead wrong, but I still maintain you are going to have to win Homestead to win the championship.
We could be looking at the same scenario as we had at Homestead in 2011. Tony Stewart knew he had to win the race for even a chance to win the championship. That's exactly what he did.
Tony won the race. He tied Carl Edwards in the points, but Tony was declared the winner because he had won more races.
It really is shaping up to be three scenarios at Homestead. Either a driver with no wins is going to win the championship. Or a driver with one win is going to win the championship. Or a driver with multiple wins is going to be our 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup champion.
I still maintain that no matter which of these three scenarios play out, the driver who wins the championship is going to have to win the race.
