Published Dec. 19, 2011 11:32 p.m. ET

Max Jones is joining Earnhardt Ganassi Racing, FOXSports.com has learned.

Jones most recently was president and general manager at Richard Petty Motorsports but left RPM in the fall of 2010.

He is expected to serve as team manager at EGR, a role previously held by Tony Glover from 2000 until he was released at the end of the 2011 season.

Jones was a longtime general manager at what is now Roush Fenway Racing and before then had a successful road-racing career. He was also a former co-owner of Yates Racing.

EGR struggled in 2011, with both Juan Pablo Montoya and Jamie McMurray finishing outside the top 20 in the season standings.
