Kurt Busch smacks wall in opening Sprint Cup practice at Michigan

Published Jun. 12, 2015 12:29 p.m. ET

With about 30 minutes left in Friday's only practice for the Quicken Loans 400 at Michigan International Speedway, Kurt Busch slapped the Turn 2 wall in his No. 41 Stewart-Haas Racing Chevrolet just as rain began falling at the 2-mile track.

Busch was 14th on the speed chart when he hit the wall. After the contact, Busch's SHR crew unloaded his backup car for qualifying later this afternoon (4 p.m. ET, FOX Sports 2), although intermittent rain is threatening the proceedings.

With a victory at Richmond earlier this year, Busch is already all but locked into the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.
