Strasburg suffered a strained flexor mass in his right elbow on Sept. 7 and has not pitched in a game since then. An MRI did not show any ligament damage.
He played catch at Turner Field on Sept. 17.
Strasburg has a 15–4 record and 3.60 ERA on the year.
The Nationals also lost catcher Wilson Ramos for the postseason after he suffered a torn ACL that will require surgery.
Game 1 of the NLDS against the Los Angeles Dodgers will be held on Oct. 7.
