The New York Mets and Chicago Cubs have been intertwined in a few trade rumors since last year, even though the two ball clubs are not actively talking. The two teams are linked because they both have what the other needs. The Mets need a shortstop, while the Cubs need starting pitching.
Shortstop Starlin Castro would look great in New York, while the Cubs would probably want either Noah Syndergaard or Steven Matz, the Mets two prized pitching prospects, in return.
Neither team appears to be in any hurry to make a trade, but if either team is involved in a pennant race, do not be surprised if one of the ball clubs is willing to give up a prized player to go after a player that they must have.
