LA Angels catcher Juan Graterol waited nearly 11 years to get to the majors. Graterol was called up in early July, but didn’t see action in five games. However, Graterol again got the call in September and this time he made the most of it.

After waiting 11 years in the minors LA Angels catcher Juan Graterol appeared in his first Major League game on September 2nd. Graterol promptly slashed an RBI-Double down the left field line during a wild ninth inning rally against Seattle. The rally fell short, but Graterol had his first taste of big league action.

Twelve days later Graterol got another chance this time in Anaheim against Seattle.  Graterol again made the most of his opportunity going two for two with a run scored.  Overall Graterol played in nine games in September and went four for fourteen with two doubles and three runs batted in. Graterol hit .286 during that span. Fielding wise Graterol made no errors in 35 chances and threw out one of four would-be base stealers.

Although it was not a very big sample size, Graterol did make the most of his time in “The Show”.

The question moving forward, where does Graterol fit in the Angels plans in the future. With two young catchers Carlos Perez and Jett Bandy ahead of him, Graterol isn’t assured of a roster spot next season.  So far the Angels have kept him on their 40-man roster, but that could change.

With Graterol turning 28 before the 2017 season starts compared to Jett Bandy and Carlos Perez who will both turn 26 before next season, he is a little bit older.  With age comes experience albeit only minor league experience.

However, Graterol is just going to give it everything he has and hope for the best.
