The Detroit Tigers will open and close the 2016 season with interesting interleague matchups.
The Tigers will head south to Miami for their season opener on April 5, according to the schedule released by Major League Baseball on Tuesday. They will also close the season on the road, in Atlanta, with a three game set against the Braves Sept. 30 - Oct. 2.
MLive points out other highlights of the Tigers' 2016 schedule:
- Detroit's schedule features interleague road stops in Miami (April 5-7), Pittsburgh (April 13-14), Washington (May 9-11) and Atlanta (Sept. 30-Oct. 2).
- The Tigers come out of the All-Star break with a six-game homestand against AL Central Division rivals Kansas City and Cleveland.
- The Boston Red Sox will make their only trip to Comerica Park on Aug. 18-21, while the Los Angeles Angels with travel to Detroit on Aug. 26-28.
- Major League Baseball's 2016 schedule assures that Game 6 and Game 7 of the World Series will, once again, extend into November.
