Syracuse Football: More Problems For Former AD Mark Coyle

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 1:44 p.m. ET

The Syracuse football team and fan base finally appears to be in a good place. The same can’t be said for former AD Mark Coyle though.

Syracuse football fans are well aware of the illustrious history with the phrase, “dream job”. Former SU coach, Doug Marrone, infamously stated that Syracuse is where he wanted to be before skedaddling to Buffalo and the NFL.

It seemed as if the Orange were turning the program around finally with the hiring of head coach Dino Babers. But in just 12 months the man who hired him was ready to bail on his “dream job” leaving SU high and dry for arguably a lateral move to Minnesota.

Now the former AD has been thrown in the middle of a collegiate controversy.

The Gophers had been protesting the suspension of 10 players connected to a sexual assault allegation, demanding that the players be reinstated immediately.

The team released a statement, which was read Saturday morning by wide receiver Drew

Wolitarsky.

“As a team, we understand that what has occurred these past few days, and playing football for the University of Minnesota, is larger than just us,” the team said in its statement. “So many before us have given so much to this University and this football team … we will not … and we recognize that we must not, let these people down.

“We now ask that you, the members of the media, our fans, and the general public hold all of us accountable for ensuring that our teammates are treated fairly, along with any and all victims of sexual assault. We also ask that the public dialogue related to the apparent lack of due process in a university system is openly discussed and evaluated.” Via ESPN.com

Originally it appeared that Minnesota was going to skip out on the Holiday Bowl. They have decided that they will play in the game.

But when SU fans heard that Coyle was dealing with these issues, it’s safe to say no one felt bad for him. But the courts will make a fair decision and evaluate all the key details in the case.
